Treasury Notes

The Cakobau Government based its currency on a dollar, equivalent in value to four English shillings. The Government's extravagant expenditure exceeded its income and further money was raised by sale of debentures and quickly disreputable treasury notes. No coinage was minted, with a wide variety of gold and silver currency being used in Fiji.
