Tongiaki

The old form of Tongan sailing canoe, superseded in the late 1700s by the kalia (drua). The Samoan va'a tele was more or less identical. Although overshadowed by the kalia, the tongiaki and va'a tele were remarkable canoes, carrying Tongan and Samoan voyagers throughout western Polynesia.
