Bure Kalou of Na Tavasara

Bure kalou (spirithouses) were often built upon raised foundations ranging in height from 1 to 7 metres and faced with stonework. Thick plank walkways were used to reach the top, with the surface of the plank cut into notched steps, as seen in this drawing from the mid-1800s of the bure kalou of Natavasara on Taveuni.
