Tobacco pipe bowls

Made from clay and designed for smoking tobacco, these two pipe bowls have been roughly decorated. The long, narrow pipe stem has broken off, which was not uncommon as they were usually very fragile. The pipe bowl would have been packed with tobacco and then lit, the smoker inhaling the smoke through the stem.
