Cession Raising of the Royal Standard

The beginning of British rule in 1874 was marked by the raising of the Royal Standard before the Governor-General and Fijian chiefs. This took place at Nasova, Levuka on the island of Ovalau, along with a variety of other ceremonies, including the signing of the Deed of Cession in both English and the indigenous language.
